ER385 typically contains around 20–22% chromium, 24–26% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, and ≤0.02% carbon. The high nickel and molybdenum content provide excellent corrosion resistance in both reducing and oxidizing situations. Mechanical properties include tensile strength of 80,000–85,000 psi, yield strength of 50,000–55,000 psi, and elongation of 30–35%. Weld deposits show toughness, ductility, and resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking. ER385 performs reliably in MIG and TIG processes, ensuring strong welds for highly alloyed stainless steels.
