Stainless Steel 420 Fasteners consist of a martensitic stainless steel alloy with around 12–14% chromium and up to 0.35–0.40% carbon. This alloy composition enables them to have good hardenability and maximum strength after heat treatment. The fasteners have high tensile strength, fair toughness, and excellent wear resistance. Once properly tempered, they can have hardness up to HRC 50. Though less corrosion resistant than austenitic grades, 420 fasteners are suitable for mildly corrosive conditions.
